Who is an “Aged Dependent Relative”?
Be aged (old enough to receive the Age Pension in Australia)
Be single (never married, divorced, widowed or permanently separated)
Have been financially dependent on their Australian relative for at least 3 years
- Be sponsored by an eligible relative who is a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible NZ citizen
Meet health and character requirements
Who Can Sponsor?
Be 18 years or older
Be the applicant’s parent, child, sibling, niece/nephew, or grandchild/grandparent
Be an Australian citizen, PR, or eligible NZ citizen
Be settled in Australia (generally living here for at least 2 years)
Important Notes
There is a long queue for this visa due to government capping
It is a permanent visa, granting full work rights and Medicare access after approval
The sponsor must agree to provide financial support and accommodation for 2 years after visa grant
Dependency must be ongoing and substantial, not occasional
